Legionella Risk Assessment Surveys

What is Legionella?

There are at least 34 species of legionella which cause legionnaires’ disease. Legionella is widespread in natural water sources but can also live in man-made water systems such as those found in large premises, including factories or hospitals. As a result it is important to ensure that your premises are free of the organism and, under the COSHH regulations 1988, risk assessments are required.

As an employer you have a responsibility to:

  • Identify and assess risk sources.

  • Prepare a scheme for preventing or controlling the risk.

  • Implement and manage precautions.

  • Keep records of precautions implemented.

To ensure you comply with the Health & Safety Executive’s code of practice for the control of legionella bacteria, and avoid prosecution, contact us to arrange a risk assessment and monitoring service.
