Manual Handling Assessments

One of the most common causes of absence from work and occupational ill health in the UK is injuries related to manual handling. They are entirely preventable, which could save your company thousands of pounds each year.

Figures from the HSE report that musculo-skeletal injuries in 2011/2012 represented 439,000 of the 1073000 work-related illnesses reported, with a cost to industry of £6bn! In addition to the costs relating to potential civil claims for damages, there are often significant hidden costs as a result of loss in production, replacement staff or even damage to your corporate image.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 specify that it is an employer’s responsibility to undertake risk assessments to control and minimise these risks.
