Is it common for asbestos to be found in industrial properties?

Asbestos was used widely in the construction for a long time in the UK because of its resistance to fire, as well as having excellent insulation features.

Unless asbestos containing materials are disturbed then they don't shed their fibres into the surrounding air and are generally deemed harmless to humans. However, asbestos was banned from use in the UK in 1999 due to the ill effects on human health when asbestos fibres are breathed in (more information here), so if your property in Nottingham was constructed or renovated before the year 2000 then you should assume that it could house asbestos containing materials.

As mentioned before, unless disturbed, asbestos poses little risk to humans, however most landlords and managing agents want the asbestos to be removed by a professional asbestos removal company for peace of mind. states on its asbestos regulations for commercial properties that -

If you're the landlord, tenant or managing agent of a commercial property you may be responsible for managing asbestos, unless your contract or lease says otherwise.
